Thing is, if they'd originally advertised it and left out the 5.1 upgrade mention people would have still bought it anyway and thought nothing of it.  Then been pleasantly surprised if a 5.1 upgrade was offered later rather than getting pissed off cos it hasnt materialised yet.

Somebody yes, somebody not. I bought this phone especially because a lollipop upgrade was promised. I wouldn't have bought a new smartphone this summer with KitKat, except if that was just a temporal state.

So i'm guessing still no firm date for lollipop?  In fairness, Lenovo promised the upgrade for my S8-50 tablet and it hasn't shown up either so it's not just UMI at fault here.

Working as an IT manager I am painfully aware how issues can drag out.  What keeps the customer placated is being kept fully in the loop, and for many of us who have bought the eMax because of it's pre-rooted state and apparent open attitude to roms, knowing what is causing the delays would be of benefit.

Has UMI considered enlisting the help of a few custom rom developers to overcome the issues?  I'm a long standing member of XDA-Developers and there are some truly gifted people there......

I am part of the XDA forum and really see a big talented group there, but the UMI need to get in touch with these people, devices and provide incentives for them to collaborate. I'm sure if someone with knowledge was with this Lollipop 5.0 M2M would have already solved the problem of SIM and Camera. My knowledge is still limited. unfortunately. I am also in IT, understand the delays, but the blame also comes from the lack of planning, delays once or twice in a product is common, but past that, is lack of planning. since July the plan to release but only in September came to be released one M2M install without running SIM CARD and Camera. I understand the side of UMI, but also understand the side of consumers.

The problem is that there is no communication. In the corporate structure that is their big problem. As there is no communication, it is clear that there is a bad organization. For one reason or another, I know they are trying to do a good job, and their devices are good, but a more Western and less "Chinese" market and communication might be a better way. And 'quite clear that not have developers within the company, and for that reason can explain why all these ads updates which are then miserably disregarded. This is a real sin, as Umi could have much more success and consideration of how they managed to have
until now.

I must agree with you overall. Although this one is quite a special case primarily caused by MediaTek's particular policy... probably, UMI should lay out their cards and tell us the real reasons that deny them to fulfill their promises.

Why don't you support Cyanogenmod? It's one of the best Android systems ever! It supports much customization, I think, more than any other system!

I've just noticed that Android 6 is due to start rollout with at least one carrier 10 days from now.   This essentially means the phone I purchased from UMI 2 weeks ago will be 2 generations behind.   That's not good enough.   If there is no working Android Lollipop made available by close of play Friday my handset will be getting returned and I will go to another manufacturer.   I will also advise the people in my office who have purchased the same model on my recommendation to do likewise.
