Official ROM updates will be provided via FOTA method. Already two updates has been released.

Custom ROMs might be provided in Rootjoy in the future but no information is available about that yet.
A UMI Touch running a factory firmware should be rooted. Isn't your phone rooted?

Yes, as the first UMI phone, this one is not rooted. You can root it with TWRP + Super SU
