The difference is a working or a bricked phone. Reasons are in my earlier posts. Nothing had to be converted for eMax mini. You only have to restore your QCN backup to get a working phone at the end. If I have some spare time, I'll try to figure out a simpler method. This one here is provided by UMI staff.

So UMI guides you to "make your Emax to a TCL", right? Woah.
Well, I think I wait a little bit more, before I brick my phone with that.

It's not what I expected to get, but I'm used to root and modify my phones on complicate ways... The dark site of buying cheap phones from china every time. ;D

I've tried the updated Mokee rom for TCL M3G. Everything seems to be working working, but I notice some bugs: led notification works, but after a while it stops working - need to reboot to work again; battery profiles, like performance, balanced, etc., doesn't seem to work - checked with Kernel Auditor.

I got my phone on Monday. Barely tried the stock rom, so I don't know if this is a rom issue, or a phone issue. I come from a Samsung S3 Neo - using a custom CM12.1 rom. Everything was more fluid and with no lags, from games to the UI - even with stock rom, I got no lags or stutter with it playing games like Real Racing 3, everything was fluid. Umi eMAx has better specs but a lower performance. How can this happens? I'm really disappointed with that. I'm going to try a different rom - the one provided here, or Airom - to see if it gets better. I even tried to downgrade resolution and dpi, to 720p 320dpi, but GPU didn't perform any better.

I would like to see some custom kernels, with more options. Can someone tell wich are the better kernel configuration for this phone, like cpu and gpu governers, etc. It seem like the cpu min. frequency it's set too hi, like 900mhz, or is not?

Let's hope that development for this phone continues.

I've a Problem by Step 2. The COM POrt is 9008. But i can only cklick on "Browse". The "Backup QCN" Button is disabled. What am I doing wrong?

I do. I've flash gapps, and now I have google play, but I got error 504 almost on every app I try to install.

I've clean cache and data on google play and google play services. I also dele my google acount on settings, and add it again. Nothing seems to work.

I did all the wipes, at every step.

to install TWRP and to transform the phone to M3G, and then only to apply the last step 6 from this official guide just to flash CMM12.1.
Which means that unofficial XDA method is easier (if really it is) and results with the same.

Edit: Actually, I see now from johnyjoe's post that the answer should be yes, both method result with the same, phone converted to M3G and baseband restored, where one can flash then any of M3G ROMs from Needrom, including this CMM12.1, MoKee, or others:

Indeed I think the other method is a bit easier, and yes, they produce the same result.
However, the discovery of that method should be credited to Shandry (XDA user). I only wrote a tutorial for a spanish forum

IMO, GAPS in September's CMM ROM are outdated so you shoud update to the latest Google Play Store v6.05, see indstructions with download links for APK at:

Before upgrading, you should probably delete your Google account and uninstall all GAPPS updates you have had.

I tried a lot of things, but non of them seemed to work.

I didn't had any issues with latest Mokee build, and now I'm trying Airom latest build, and no issues with google play.

Airom seems to be better than Mokee, at least I've got a better antutu score - 27000 something on Mooke, and now 30000 something on Airom. : )

Mokee latest build is not vulnurable to stagefright, but Airom is. The emax_mini rom in this tutoral was the the most vulnurable of all them.

In Airom led notifications not always work, as in Mokee. After a lost call, when I connect the usb cable, the led won't turn on. At least, when they work, they blink on both roms, but on the emax min cm12.1 rom the led stays on permanentely.

I'm going to try Airom for a while to see if it's better than Mokee.
