I'm not too sure... What I believe is that if you want to just root, but keep the stock ROM you don't have to do anything. But if want to install a custom ROM, then you need to flash vbmeta... What I understood so far is that each brand has its own vbmeta file. What I don't is if you need to patch it to make it work with a custom ROM....
My plan is to root it and keep the stock ROM, but if I keep having the same problems with the Mic and fingerprint, which I strongly believe is a ROM issue (Too bad Umidigi doesn't care about customers and doesn't release a bug fix), then I will try a custom ROM.
