This is the SP Flash Tool + OTA release of the
V1.0_20190522 system software
for UMIDIGI F1 Play
(European version)

Flash tool operation is recommended to experienced users only. If you are not yet an experienced flash tool user, please carefully read the flash tool tutorial before proceeding, and strictly follow each instruction.

Except if an authorized or responsible expert directly asked you to do that,
never format the flash chip of your device or you instantly lose your warranty!

UMIDIGI F1 Play receives all updates automatically via FOTA method. You need this tool only in case of emergency (if you've bricked your phone), if you want to apply a clean install or if you want to clear all root access and custom recovery to make your phone able to receive FOTA updates again. Moreover, flashing with SPFT is the only option to repair (replace) damaged system software.

Changelog:
  • Autofocus added for video recording
  • Bokeh mode parameters updated
  • Power amplifier parameters updated
  • Other minor bug fixes and system improvements

The system will show UMIDIGI_F1.E_V1.0_20190125 as Build number after this update but the real version is V1.0_20190522
FOTA version: UMIDIGI_F1.E_V1.0_20190125_20190522-1128

SP Flash Tool
Resources:

Flashtool tutorial: http://bit.ly/SPFTguide

ROM: >>> 2019052214_g38v71c2k_kw_f1_play_eea.rar <<<
Extract the .rar file before use. The scatter file (MT6771_Android_scatter.txt) is inside the extracted folder, together with the other components

VCOM driver: Windows 10 already automatically can install it (if your computer is connected to the internet) or you can use this: MTK_Driver_Auto_Installer_SP_Drivers_20160804.exe

Here's an optional solution to start the flashing process on your UMIDIGI F1 Play if the standard method doesn't work.
It's especially useful if your phone is bricked or is stuck in bootloop
1. Connect your UMIDIGI F1 Play to USB.
2. Start the flashing process with the Download button in the flasher app.
3. Press and keep pressed the power button of your phone until the flashing process starts (red bar appears at the bottom of the app window), then release it. In this process you have to keep the power button pressed for about 10 seconds.
4. Wait until the flashing process finishes.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OTA (recovery) update
Manual (local) OTA update method instructions
  • Copy the downloaded .zip file to the internal storage of your phone
  • Go to Settings --> System --> --> Advanced --> About phone --> Wireless update
  • Tap the 3-dot menu button in the top right corner and select Local Updates
  • Brows for the ...update.zip file and select it
  • Select INSTALL NOW, then OK in the Warning window. Your phone reboots into recovery, the update gets installed, then your phone boots into Android. Your updated system is ready to use.

Update file for manual OTA update:
>>> UMIDIGI_F1.E_V1.0_20190125_20190522-1128_update.zip <<<
It can update version 20190515 only

Optional method (in case if the manual OTA update gets stuck): Install from recovery
You need a microSD card (with at least 4GB capacity) installed in your phone!
  • Copy the ...update.zip file to your SD card.
  • Press and hold the volume-up and power buttons together until your phone restarts (the boot screen is displayed), then immediately release the power button and keep only the vol-up button pressed until your phone boots into recovery. It needs about 10 seconds or a little bit less if your phone was already powered off.
  • Here you can see a lying android figure with an exclamation mark in red triangle on its tummy and 'No command'.
  • Press and hold the power and vol-up buttons (in this order) together, then release first the vol-up button to call the recovery menu. Now you can move with the volume buttons and select an item with the power button.
  • Move to ‘Apply update from SD card’ and select it.
  • On the next screen brows for the update file and select it. The updating process will start and needs a few minutes to be finished.
  • After a succcessful installation you can read the ''Install from sdcard complete'' message and the receovery menu is available again.
  • Select 'Reboot system now'. Alternatively you can perform a factory data reset here by choosing 'Wipe data/factory reset'

Kind request from users:
Please report any kind of new issues you experience after installing this update only if you've already flashed this ROM with SP Flash Tool in Firmware Upgrade mode. In rare cases a FOTA update can cause more or less serious malfunctions but that means only the update process went wrong, not a badly developed ROM. An updated stock ROM, especially related to the basic functions will not cause any new issues but will solve some of the existing ones.

+1

I wanted to root my F1 Play following this manual: https://community.umidigi.com/forum.php?mod ...

Hi, You missed to read the following line in the tutorial:

- If you have an Android 9.0 phone, first you need to unlock the bootloader and use Magisk 19.0 or newer version

Can confirm aswell, the call volume is way to low, maybe enough if you are in a perfectly quiet room, but as soon as there is even some noise around, it gets very hard to hear the other party. Umidigi, please fix this.

So, got this phone, one thing really wrong is the auto-focus wile filming, it focuses randomly and totally wrong most of the time, is there a way to lock the focus? Other than that, a security upgrade would really be welcomed.

hi, can i flash the .EU version in .NOT EU device?

Yes you can.
The difference between EU and not EU is simply in the Firmware, to respect GDPR law in the UE.

No mention of the memory issues, but I think they may have fixed it!

Certainly today since I updated the phone 8 hours ago not a single app has been prematurely flushed from memory. They've all instantly resumed from where they were as you'd expect with a 6GB device.

Hopefully it's a genuine fix and not just due to rebooting the phone earlier today.

Memory issue still there - now all apps are reloading from scratch instead of instantly resuming.

However, it seemed to take longer for this to occur (1 day, loading many many apps and switching multiple times between them).

I guess I'll just have to get used to rebooting it each day to 'fix' the issue.

I delayed the installation of this updated for 1 day to wait what you guys would say.

I haven't had problems multitasking before, and I keep having no issues at all.

I noticed two big improvements/fix:

1  - The fingerprint sensor
Before this update it used to work 3 out of 5 attempts.
After the update, it is now working 4.5 out of 5 attempts.
2- WhatsApp photo
Before this update it was shifting the image to the left after take the pic using the app
After the update, it is now working as it should.

Here is the bugs I have had since I received the phone and no correction for it:
- Unable to change the "Default alarm sound" (No matter which sound I chose, it stays with "Cesium" selected)

Interesting that you don't see the memory issue.

Are you running the stock launcher (Quickstep) or another one. I'm running Nova Launcher as I wanted to be rid of the Google search bar - I wonder if it's related to that...

I'm not happy with this latest update :/
The camera App uninstalled itself...
I am not able to run the camera from WhatsApp, it's opening and directly closing the app, showing the message: Can't Start camera, please restart the phone.
I Have to use OpenCamera for now.

The Compass: WTF is the problem!? (and HOW can i re-calibrate it, can't find any option for that it's crazy...)
My Google Maps is showing me going backwards when i'm walking. The GPS Precision is not really great, it puts me on a road i'm not and that kind of stuff. This bug appeared 2 updates ago. If i reboot, the compass is working as expected for a little while, then is all buggy again...

Still no possibilities to show the network speed in the status bar :/
Fingerprint is much better since the previous update, I didn't notice anything regarding that on this new update.

I can't tell for the multi tasking problems... ANy suggestion on what app to use or where to look for that?

Thanks UMIDIGI to try to solve our bugs

I have Nova Launcher (pro... I was used to the ASUS Launcher which is much better in my opinion, and 100% free).
I don't notice any problem of the memory, please tell me how to check for that and i'll let you know asap ;)

Comments

Just normal use. Currently when I switch to Firefox it'll reload, then switch back to GMail it'll reload, then back to Firefox and it's reloaded it again instead of instantly resuming from RAM.  Post time 2019-5-29 20:27

now, and for the first time that I see appearing in the mobile network settings, the switch buttons for the VOWIFI and VIDEO CALL after this update, and I also tried to call someone with the airplane mode  activated and it works (the call gsm goes through the wifi), even video calls work on mobile network, here is for once, a useful update.
