This is the SP Flash Tool + OTA release of the
V1.0_20190301 system software
for UMIDIGI F1
(European version)

Flash tool operation is recommended to experienced users only. If you are not yet an experienced flash tool user, please carefully read the flash tool tutorial before proceeding, and strictly follow each instruction.

Except if an authorized or responsible expert directly asked you to do that,
never format the flash chip of your device or you instantly lose your warranty!

UMIDIGI F1 receives all updates automatically via FOTA method. You need this tool only in case of emergency (if you've bricked your phone), if you want to apply a clean install or if you want to clear all root access and custom recovery to make your phone able to receive FOTA updates again. Moreover, flashing with SPFT is the only option to repair (replace) damaged system software.

Changelog:
  • Camera color balance issue fixed
  • Camera bokeh mode algorithm updated
  • Front camera max resolution is set to 16MP
  • Photos app broken pop-up menu bug fixed
  • APN settings updated
  • EngineerMode added
  • Proximity- and Light sensor issues fixed
  • Other minor bug fixes and system improvements

    Known issue:
    • The multitask manager crashes if you have a third party launcher set as the default home app. The next update will fix it.

The system will show UMIDIGI_F1_V1.0_20190125 as Build number after this update but the real version is V1.0_20190301
FOTA version: UMIDIGI_F1_V1.0_20190125_20190301-1022

SP Flash Tool
Resources:

Flashtool tutorial: http://bit.ly/SPFTguide

ROM: >>> 2019030110_g38v71c2k_kw_f1_eea.rar <<<
Extract the .rar file before use. The scatter file (MT6771_Android_scatter.txt) is inside the extracted folder, together with the other components

VCOM driver: Windows 10 already automatically can install it (if your computer is connected to the internet) or you can use this: MTK_Driver_Auto_Installer_SP_Drivers_20160804.exe

Here's an optional solution to start the flashing process on your UMIDIGI F1 if the standard method doesn't work.
It's especially useful if your phone is bricked or is stuck in bootloop
1. Connect your UMIDIGI F1 to USB.
2. Start the flashing process with the Download button in the flasher app.
3. Press and keep pressed the power button of your phone until the flashing process starts (red bar appears at the bottom of the app window), then release it. In this process you have to keep the power button pressed for about 10 seconds.
4. Wait until the flashing process finishes.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OTA (recovery) update
Manual (local) OTA update method instructions
  • Copy the downloaded .zip file to the internal storage of your phone
  • Go to Settings --> System --> --> Advanced --> About phone --> Wireless update
  • Tap the 3-dot menu button in the top right corner and select Local Updates
  • Brows for the ...update.zip file and select it
  • Select INSTALL NOW, then OK in the Warning window. Your phone reboots into recovery, the update gets installed, then your phone boots into Android. Your updated system is ready to use.

Update file for manual OTA update:
>>> UMIDIGI_F1_V1.0_20190125_20190301-1022_update.zip <<<
It can update version 20190130 only

Optional method (in case if the manual OTA update gets stuck): Install from recovery
You need a microSD card (with at least 4GB capacity) installed in your phone!
  • Copy the ...update.zip file to your SD card.
  • Press and hold the volume-up and power buttons together until your phone restarts (the boot screen is displayed), then immeduately release the power button and keep only the vol-up button pressed until your phone boots into recovery. It needs about 10 seconds or a little bit less if your phone was already powered off.
  • Here you can see a lying android figure with an exclamation mark in red triangle on its tummy and 'No command'.
  • Press and hold the power and vol-up buttons (in this order) together, then release first the vol-up button to call the recovery menu. Now you can move with the volume buttons and select an item with the power button.
  • Move to ‘Apply update from SD card’ and select it.
  • On the next screen brows for the update file and select it. The updating process will start and needs a few minutes to be finished.
  • After a succcessful installation you can read the ''Install from sdcard complete'' message and the receovery menu is available again.
  • Select 'Reboot system now'. Alternatively you can perform a factory data reset here by choosing 'Wipe data/factory reset'

Kind request from users:
Please report any kind of new issues you experience after installing this update only if you've already flashed this ROM with SP Flash Tool in Firmware Upgrade mode. In rare cases a FOTA update can cause more or less serious malfunctions but that means only the update process went wrong, not a badly developed ROM. An updated stock ROM, especially related to the basic functions will not cause any new issues but will solve some of the existing ones.

As for quickstep issue, all you guys have to do is to remove the package and it'll work flawlessly, even with custom launchers(I'm using Nova).
This is only temporarily until you factory reset OR OTA update the device.

1) Download minimal adb fastboot package from here: https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=962187416754459552
2) Go to Settings > System > About Phone and tap on "build number" about 8 times. You should see a message saying: "You are a developer now"
3) Back to the previous menu and you should see now a new item called "Developer options", go there, find and enable "USB debugging".
4) Now connect the phone to the PC via USB and select "Transfer files" on the phone.
5) Open a command line and go to the directory you extracted the adb tools to.
6) Run the command "adb devices", your device should shown. If not, you need to check the drivers.
7) Run "adb shell"
8) Run "pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.android.launcher3". It should show "success".
9) Reboot the device and you will be able to multitask until either factory reset OR update.

I'll sent my F1 back to Amazon if Umidigi don't fix this issue until next 3 days. (With 1 star down  ...

but the amazon is not at fault, it has to be the company that fixes the errors.
it's taking some time, and frankly, people today like brands to quickly fix bugs, and nowadays via OTA is easy.
It is no longer a cheap smartphone, so if you want to grow Umidigi you have to quickly fix these bugs and listen to the users.
Otherwise it is not worth launching phones constantly, if they do not support ... it is preferable to have two or three phones per year with support, than to launch 20 without support.

Great phone but lack of software support and really buggy, it would be nice to have extra information on the date of the next update!

I know Umi are a small company, but I think they have a lot of potential.  Apart from a few niggle ...

I know that umidigi has a lot of potential, I already had several mobile phones, Oneplus 5, Mi6, Redmi 5 Plus and I can assure you of one thing, that the F1 is nothing behind the oneplus, beautiful screen, excellent battery (the best i have), spectacular speed ... the P60 mediatek is nothing left behind snapdragon 835.
the only thing I expect from Umidigi is that you listen to your fans and please be sure to support your mobiles for a while.
I think it is fundamental to listen to the users, and to improve ... this cell phone has everything to be a beast, it has immense potential.
do not disappoint us umidigi, that I am recommending you to everyone.

It's March 15. I hope we get a patch soon! I'm hesitant to hack it apart yet. It's going to be a time waster for me. As this isn't something I want to spend my free time doing.

The VoLTE and VoWiFi (IMS) connection interrupts after a while, often after changing the Wi-Fi network. The phone connects only after a reboot of the phone or the start and end of the flight mode again with the IMS service. The same SIM card (o2 / Telefonica Germany) works in the UMIDIGI Z2 PRO trouble-free.

The front camera always focuses on the background, not the person. This makes the background sharp and the face blurry.

The recents button when using a custom launcher is broken. Pop up states that Quickstep has stopped.  Very annoying as worked fine on previous firmware.

Actually the front camera is built with a fixed focus lens (it can't change the focus), so everything should be sharp farther than about 50 cm. Could you please share a sample photo to let us see how it looks like in your case?

It would be cool if our build number was accurate or at least we have some way of knowing which patch we're running, since each of them seem to have unique difficulties.
