i have now tested extensively the camera .... well, it's not very good, i am afraid to say. when  i ordered the phone the publicity was talking about professional mode.... there is none.
the bokeh effect.... is fake, simply obtained software effect on photo obtained by the upper lens. it seems that the second lens HAS NO FUNCTION AT ALL.
when shooting with flash most of the time there comes out a greenish result, white balance doesn't automatically balance the different light sources (fluorescent, incandescent etc.).
low light photos have tremendous amount of noise specially in dark areas. there is no panorama mode like on most other smartphone brands even on cheap models....

i am totally disappointed that i can't shoot satisfying portrait fotos like on a XIAOMI MI A1... even though the S2 Pro is more expensive at about USD300...

is there no effort done by the developers to include an efficient software with the stock camera app which improves the whole picutre quality like low light conditions to cancel noise as much as possible,
to include a real DSLR-camera like portrait/bokeh effect where the depth of field is correctly set on the object and gives the "out of focus" effect for everything which is in front or behind ?

i aked this question already several times but so far no satisfying reply except one answer which told me that eventually the developers "are improving the camera software"...

at this point if somebody asks me if it's worth to buy the S2 Pro may answer clearly is: NO, YOU CAN FIND MUCH BETTER PHONES AT CHEAPER PRICE FROM OTHER BRANDS.
i am very sorry but these USD300 have been wasted uselessly ....

I just had a umidigi s2. it is OK on all areas except the catastrophic photo quality. it feels like  ...

you state that you had a UMIDIGI S2 .... not S2 Pro, so you are in the wrong section. the camera on S2 Pro is in fact not good.... while in bright light conditions i.e. daylight it's quite ok, the problems start in low light conditions, specially with flash which gives a yellowish tint to all pictures. I personally found a way to improve, not perfect but it gives more natural results: use a black adhesive tape and cover the upper half of the flash, using only the lower half.

also there is the problem of the FAKE BOKEH  EFFECT which does nothing more than a blurring around to be defined more or less round or eliptical areas. it absolutely DOES NOT calculate any dephth of field to obtain a DSLR like portrait effect, i.e. where the background and eventually the foreground are blurred while everything at the same distance of the lens should be neat and focused.... THAT MEANS THE SECOND LENS IS FAKE AND IS NOT USED BY THE PROCESSOR'S CAPACITY TOGETHER WITH A CORRESPONDING SOFTWARE, which is totally missing on S2 PRO.....

Edited by benson at 2018-4-9 05:03 \n\nI tried this apk, which probably doesn't bring the full features of the Google Cam, but it seems to improve a bit the shoots, not by much, but better than nothing, even if I couldn't test it deeply. Let me know if you are able to test it and what your impressions are. If we could enable Camera2 api maybe some improvements could be made.

It definitely shows three cameras on my S2 pro

that's why i insisted so many times, it is a question of software to implement, in order to create the portrait / bokeh effect like on XIAOMI MIA1 OR ONEPLUS 5T etc.
the lenses are recognized. it's UMIDIGI softwear developers which are lazy and ignorant, in my modest opinion....

I think it's better with the newest version of Umi OS, the first 2018 version.

If you had listened to me when I was analyzing the S2 and you thought it was different for the S2 Pr ...

can you explain in a very precise and detailled way what would be the function of the second lens? you say you have pictures to prove your saying? so please go ahead and post them...

Perhaps we can see better the contribution of the second sensor on these two enlargements.
Despi ...

thanks for your details. as per your first 2 nearly black photos i must say, yes, the second looks a very tiny little bit clearer, so does also the second photo of the flowersample you posted later,
BUT on both and specially on the nearly black samples i noticed a lot more noise ...
if this is the only "improvement" result then it is about the same as saying it's NOT functional, isn't it?!
i do not know, but my impression still is seriously that this second lens doesn't make any difference. it only would if it would be used for a real dephth of field calculation to allow a most realistic
bokeh or portrait mode effect like we can find on many other dual lens cameras like XIAOMI MI A1 OR MI6 or ONEPLUS 5T ... that's the ones I know best and I must say the results are really very
convincing when made under best conditions. you really have foreground and background objects gradually blurred depending of how far from the main "in focus" object / person the are.

I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE A CONCRETE ANSWER FROM THE DEVELOPERS: ARE THEY OR NOT ABLE TO REPLACE THE WHOLE CAMERA APPLICATION AND REPLACE IT WITH A IMPROVED
VERSION WHICH INCLUDES SOFTWARE WHICH AUTOMATICALLY IMPROVES LOWLIGHT PICTURES (MAKE CLEARER PICS AND LESS OR NO NOISE) AS WELL AS DECENT BOKEH /PORTRAIT MODE
AS BY NOW EXPLAINED SO MANY TIMES ??

thanks for your details. as per your first 2 nearly black photos i must say, yes, the second looks ...

regarding the fake BOKEH effect on S2 Pro:   hereafter i attach a photo made on S2 Pro but with the "Google Camera" with the option "Lens blur". the google camera uses only any single lens smartphone to obtain the portrait or bokeh effect.
you shoot and then move the camera slightly and slowly upwards. based on the information of the main picture and the slightly stereoscopic result obtained by the upwards move, the SOFTWARE is able to create a "dephth of field" information,
allowing to blur the background and eventually also the foreground. the amount of blur can be varied. less is more as it looks usually more real and natural.
SO: a smartphone with DUAL LENS like S2 Pro has basically everything needed, i.e. the main lens to take the picture and the 2nd lens to get the stereoscopic information to calculate the "dephth of field" and from there create the final picture
with the blurred back- and foreground ....

IF UMIDIGI DOESN'T SUPPLY AN UPDATE FOR ITS CAMERA SOFTWARE INCLUDING SUCH TREATMENT, THAT WILL DEFINITELY CONFIRM THAT THE 2ND LENS WOULD THEN BE FAKE AND TOTALLY USELESS. A SHAME REALLY ... :-(
please administrators of the forum, insist with the developers and get precise technical reply. if other phone makers can do it, UMIDIGI also can do it.... unless if the 2nd lens is only decoration ...
thank you.

I just had a umidigi s2. it is OK on all areas except the catastrophic photo quality. it feels like coming back 10 years back with blurry photos of very bad quality. i hope imidigi will find a solution quickly otherwise the phone will stay at the bottom of a drawer
