This is the SP Flash Tool release of the
V1.0_20171221 (Android 6.0.1) system software
for UMIDIGI S2

Flash tool operation is recommended for experienced users only. Do not use it if you cannot understand the whole process!
UMIDIGI S2 receives all updates automatically via FOTA method. You need this tool only in case of emergency (if you've bricked your phone), if you want to apply a clean install or if you want to clear all root access and custom recovery to make your phone able to receive FOTA updates again.

Changelog:
  • Optimized camera performance
  • WiFi stability issues fixed
  • Minor bug fixes

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SP Flash Tool
Resources:

Extract the .rar file before use. The scatter file (MT6757_Android_scatter.txt) is inside the extracted folder, together with the other components

VCOM driver: Windows 10 can automatically install it. Please make sure that your Windows is logged in with administrator rights and your computer has a working internet connection when first time connecting your phone.

Here's an optional solution to start the flashing process on your UMIDIGI S2 if the standard method doesn't work.
It's especially useful if your phone is bricked or is stuck in bootloop
1. Connect your UMIDIGI S2 to USB.
2. Start the flashing process with the Download button in the flasher app.
3. Press and keep pressed the power button of your phone until the flashing process starts (red bar appears at the bottom of the app window), then release it. In this process you have to keep the power button pressed for about 10 seconds.
4. Wait until the flashing process finishes.

Kind request from users:
Please report any kind of new issues you experience after installing this update only if you've already flashed this ROM with SP Flash Tool in Firmware Upgrade mode. In rare cases a FOTA update can cause more or less serious malfunctions but that means only the update process went wrong, not a badly developed ROM. An updated stock ROM, especially related to the basic functions will not cause any new issues but will solve some of the existing ones.

Hey there Umidigi team and Forum Users, i have a real ...

Hi,

Actually I answered that question many times. Since the pre-sale of the S2 started (so from the date when it was first possible to order it), on the official products page or anywhere in our advertisements, UMIDIGI has never promised an Android version upgrade for this model. The required development kit from MediaTek is missing. In an early state, before the manufacturing had started, we promised a different variant of this phone with Andorid 7 but finally that has become the S2 Pro. Currently that's still not possible to release an android version upgrade for the S2, that's not about our decision.

Yours sincerely,
Ben

thx for forst update with newer Android patch level. Now it is February 2017, but this is still not the latest one. Would be great if you can add latest available patch level during next ROM update

I still can't change ISO and Shutter Speed. Are you going to make it possible? Are you going to make frame rate more than 13 fps for 4k video?

What can you say about manual ISO and Shutter speed?

What can you say about manual ISO and Shutter speed?

You can change the ISO speed in pro-photo mode, that feature was always available. The shutter speed will not be manually changeable. I don't know how many smartphone models you know, that makes it possible to manually change the shutter speed. The video framerate is not limited to 13-14fps in 4K resolution. I don't understand why you repeat that again and again. Here's a 4K video recorded with an S2 in a hardware store. It's average framerate is 27fps.

As I told you earlier (and you also can read it out from the file information), the video encoder uses dynamic frame rate; the lower the shutter speed, the lower current fps.

1. You are right my friend! Look at the screenshot of YOUR footage properties. 13.87i means INTERLACED VIDEO! It is not PROGRESSIVE scan! That is why you see 27 fps in the windows properties and 13.87 fps in Adobe Premiere Pro. Look at your own footage, it is not smooth. It jerks from frame to frame.2. I see visual artifacts in your footage: horizontal lines at the edges of the screen. Do you see them? I have the same on my phone.

3. I can change the ISO speed in pro-photo mode, BUT that feature doesn't work properly! When fixed ISO selected (100, 200, 400...) the camera is still changing brightnes of the picture.

4. I know for sure that every iPhone since 10 year old 4s model has ability to manually change the shutter speed using filmic pro app. Many cheap android phones can change the shutter speed in Camera FV-5.

I hope you can give us a clear answer about each of these 4 issues. And tell us what and when you can fix in the next firmware.

Edited by esclusoilcane at 2017-12-27 19:19 \n\nIt seems to me overall more stable, obviously not miracle in camera but less blurry in pictures and more stable, so decent ones. Better overall functionality and until now no crash nor in YouTube ,nor in WhatsApp like before
I'll keep u updated
After 1 day of usage with this update i'd say: nice job for a200$ phone
Still to test in my everyday usage: floatify stability after longer usage (frequent crash before), recording WhatsApp messages after unlinked Bluetooh (mute before)

Do I have to select Preloader in the Flash tool during the installation of this firmware?

Comments

Yes, you should flash everything, except the userdata partition if you want to keep your user data.  Post time 2017-12-31 18:08
