Dear Users,
We really notified our official retailers and they are really ready to receive the defective devices and to pay a full refund. It's about a standard warranty process: your device is defective, you return it to the seller, you get a full refund or a replacement device. This defection is caused by the manufacturer by accident but in case of warranty it's not different from any other defections like if your speaker gets broken or the touchscreen stops working etc. Rarely but that can happen, and if that's the result of a manufacturing issue, then it's caused by the manufacturer. The only difference here is that, now about 50 users are involved at the same time but that does not make this case more serious from a single user's aspect, only the community makes it stronger.
Since now it's about a greater bunch of devices, we are working on a possible solution, that can make this warranty process smoother. Maybe wew'll be able to collect the bricked by OTA devices in the EU but currently I can not promise that since it needs further coordination and logistics to work out. Currently it's possible to return your device to the place of purchase, wherever it is located. We'll come back later with new information, please try to be patient or contact your seller.
Finally some personal thoughts.
Someone mentioned another brand to buy it at Amazon for smooth warranty process. UMIDIGI smartphones are also officially available at Amazon UK and Germany with fast (local) delivery and smooth warranty service offered. Maybe new models are available a bit later and at somewhat higher prices than at the Chinese sellers, but they are available. If you don't want to risk anything and you're aware of that, electric devices can fail, the option to get a higher and more useful protection is available. If you live in the EU and make your purchaase directly from the EU, your purchase is covered by the consumer protection laws appplied in the EU. However, if you decide to purchase something shipped from China, you take a special risk as well, regardless of the product you choose. Long shipping time, customs fees might be filed, you may not be able or it would be too expensive to return a defective device and your purchase is not protected by any laws. However, that is your decision, your risk. The manufacturer is not aware of the identity and location of its end-users, it has no contracts with the end-users (except if the manufaturer is also located in the territory of the EU, what is not the case here). Also, a China located seller may make it available to receive orders from overseas countries but no laws oblige them to follow specific warranty rules. You usually can read about the seller's warranty policy on their website and you may accept it or not.
What the manufacturer's expected duty is, to take action immediately if something bad happens on its own side. I think UMIDIGI has done it. The OTA server was stopped asap and the official retailers were notified and requested to handle this issue with their buyers. So for example if you are a UK resident and bought your defective device at Amazon, you can return your device and receive a full refund quickly and with no cost. However, if you took the risk and purchased from China, this process might be much longer and more expensive and it's not covered by any laws. As I mentioned above, we are working on a possible solution to help our users made their orders from China, but at the moment I can not promise anything certain. While we still regret and apologize for this inconvenience, what we are working on now is just a special solution, not a standard process that you can expect to be applied.
Sincerely yours,
Ben, UMIDIGI
