This is the SP Flash Tool release of the
V1.0_20170928 (Android 6.0.1) system software
for UMIDIGI S2
Flash tool operation is recommended for experienced users only. Do not use it if you cannot understand the whole process!
UMIDIGI S2 receives all updates automatically via FOTA method. You need this tool only in case of emergency (if you've bricked your phone), if you want to apply a clean install or if you want to clear all root access and custom recovery to make your phone able to receive FOTA updates again.

Changelog:
  • Improved Fingerprint scanner unlock speed
  • Redesigned Camera UI
  • Added 'Battery save mode' auto turns on when reaching low battery

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SP Flash Tool
Resources:

Flashtool tutorials: UMI Forum or androidxda guide or YouTube guide (you can google a lot of other solutions and guides)
ROM: >>>>> 20170928_g20v57c2k_kw_s81.rar <<<<<
Extract the .rar file before use. The scatter file (MT6757_Android_scatter.txt) is inside the extracted folder, together with the other components

VCOM driver: Windows 10 already automatically can install it or you can use this: MTK_Driver_Auto_Installer_SP_Drivers_20160804.exe

Here's an optional solution to start the flashing process on your UMIDIGI S2 if the standard method doesn't work.
It's especially useful if your phone is bricked or is stuck in bootloop
1. Connect your UMIDIGI S2 to USB.
2. Start the flashing process with the Download button in the flasher app.
3. Press and keep pressed the power button of your phone until the flashing process starts (red bar appears at the bottom of the app window), then release it. In this process you have to keep the power button pressed for about 10 seconds.
4. Wait until the flashing process finishes.

Kind request from users:
Please report any kind of new issues you experience after installing this update only if you've already flashed this ROM with SP Flash Tool in Firmware Upgrade mode. In rare cases a FOTA update can cause more or less serious malfunctions but that means only the update process went wrong, not a badly developed ROM. An updated stock ROM, especially related to the basic functions will not cause any new issues but will solve some of the existing ones.

Ok, so let me get this straight.
You're releasing a v2 of the s2 that supports android 7.0?

v1 and v2 is given by me as some name extensions until a better solution will be found out. Although the two variants look the same, in hardware the S2 v1 (currently available model) is closer to UMi Plus E, while the S2 v2 (if it will be ever released) is basically based on the same hardware as the Z1 (Pro) or the S, and those models were initially released with Android 7.0 pre-installed. The UMIDIGI S2 has been being sold as an Android 6.0 device without the promise of a later Android version upgrade until now, so you could and can decide whether it's acceptable by you or not. https://www.gearbest.com/cell-phones/pp_748533.html?wid=11 We are sorry if you misunderstood something.
I think that would be still legal to sell a new smartphone with Android 2.3 if that's described correctly. Then it's the buyer's decision to accept it or not.

Thanks a lot ... Ben for your reply about these 2 version!!!  Post time 2017-11-3 23:39
But the latest available patches for the installed OS should be deployed with a new phone and not from January 2017. When is it planned to deploy latest patches?  Post time 2017-11-1 15:15

I've just received my UMIDIGI S2 and it looks awesome! my only dissapointment is because it's running Android 6.0.1... but anyway it works perfect!!!
Do you know if it will update to (at least) Android 7.0?
Will review it on my Youtube channel as soon as possible and like to have all the information available...
Thank you very much!

Hi,
Unfortunately MediaTek still has not released an Android 7.x SDK for this kind of SoC (the first version of the Helio P20 (MT6757)) processor. Without that to make an Android version upgrade is not possible.

That's a shame. In this case you should include in a future update the possibility of splitting the screen, since Android 7 incorporates it natively and in Android 6 is not available and it is impossible to take advantage of the 18:9 screen of the UMIDIGI S2. Thanks for the answer.

The multi-window feature is not officially supported in android 6 by google, so you can never expect it to be enabled in a stock rom. I'm sorry.
