Fingerprint sensor died right out of the box

I just got my Fair phone last night. I went to set the fingerprint, and as per instructions, the progress bar appeared and the fingerprint picture started lighting up and then it just stopped at 60% or so.
When I try to do it again, the progress bar doesn't appear at all no matter how long I wait.

Ideas?

Could you specify which steps are you following to configure fingerprint system?

On Fair, you must press your finger on fingerprint place, not only situate on it, because sensor is not very sensitive

If you really cannot get it to work...
(That means you have tried as per the above suggestion, reboot the handset and factory restore)
...then contact your reseller and arrange for a replacement.

I hope it was just a fluke though and that you have it working by now.

Hello. My name's  Alexandra and I have an UMI Fair too. When I unpacked it, the fingerprint worked. But after a few lock/unlock testing the fingerprint, it works sometimes. I mean, sometimes when I put my finger on the fingerprint the mobile phone unlocks and sometimes doesn't happen anything. the same with the settings: sometimes when I try to add a new fingerprint works and sometimes not. *****I HAVE TO SAY THAT SOMETIMES WHEN I TRY TO ADD A NEW FINGERPRINT THE MOBILE PHONE DOESN'T DO ANYTHING (LIKE A LAG,WITH WHITE SCREEN) AND I HAVE TO PRESS THE HOME BUTTON AND TRY AGAIN. I THINK THAT IS NOT THE FINGERPRINT BECAUSE IT WORKS BUT THE SOFTWARE IS THE PROBLEM. TRY TO MAKE A NEW UPDATE TO THE SYSTEM (ROM) AND SOLVE THE FINGERPRINT PROBLEM PLEASE!!!!

- How long have you had the phone?
- Have you changed the ROM, either before or after the issue started?
- Have you attempted a factory restore?

I'm finding the fingerprint reader is very temperamental too ...bought at Christmas as my present and I have tried setting a fingerprint ID and using it twice and each time it fails after one use. Funny how mu iPad needs a gentle touch and it works. Every time.
I didn't get a user manual either so how am I supposed to understand how to work the full settings, without trial and error?
Last question I'm worried about : some write ups have stated that photos taken on this phone are not able to be attached or sent?
