I can only advise you to flash phone with SPFT and latest firmware.

Did you try different USB wire, USB port, and reinstall USB driver?? Also make sure you have pressed download first and then switch off your phone and connect phone to PC.

Do you have access to PC with Windows XP, Vista or 7 as is very easy to install drivers there.
Then you could try on different PC and system.
Also if phone is off shouldn't show any type of notification on PC when is connected.
Please switch on phone, unlock and connect to PC and check is connecting.

Hi BarryRangers,

I have always had big difficulties in getting the SPFT update process started on my MAX. I have however succeeded with a trick I read here from some earlier thread: I press the power and volume up buttons together right after starting the download and connecting the phone to the PC. However, this doesn't seem to be consistent, for me it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't.

I have sent this comment here also earlier, and back then MarcinP commented back that starting the process should never require pressing any buttons. He may very well be right; it can be a pure coincidence that the process sometimes just happens to start on my phone, and it has nothing to do with the buttons. But in your situation, when nothing else seems to help, maybe it could be worth trying.

By the way, in those several update attempts when the process didn't start, I also got a message from Windows sayig something like Usb not recognised. Yes, with a properly shut off phone.
