In my humble opinion it is all down to programmers laziness and/or incompetence that we don't have a functional notification led. The led is controled by the software, android has a full support for event notifications and most third party apps support them too. The present led utilization of the emax mini is really a sad joke. Eeven the little it does shoulld be improved. The charging light is much too bright and in battery saving state it should not shine consrtantly with full brightness but give short and very soft pulses.

Yes, it has, but that currently notifies about the charging only. Maybe future updates will extend its usability, but I can't yet confirm that.

Edited by zgf at 2015-12-22 04:35 \n\nIn the Root thread, post 38#, Carstenheuer has installed Xposed. Maybe LED can be configured for notifications by Xposed LED Control module (on the rooted phone)
PS: I,ve tried Xposed LED Control module but it didn't help.

There is another problem : when battery is low (less 15%) the notification led turn ON until the phone is charged again

I think that's not a problem but a warning to notify you about the urgent need of charging.
As an addition, since I've already got an emax mini, I must confirm that, that LED is not a notification light, it means only to indicate the charging process.

As an ad ...

in the same way that the led work to show that the phone is charging, it can be used to show notifications. i tried some apps and configurations. but i think that's a problem with hardware and software for umi's part

In the thread "6FA6-ZP1-P5002 11/17/2015 update", post 64#, Niaph suggests to install Xposed module BusyBox and to use backlight of Recent and Menu buttons for notifications:
