unable to get past welcome screen on 1.6 umi iron

Hi guys I have just tried updating to the official 1.6 on my umi iron but I am unable to get past the welcome screen after the flash has succesfully completed. I connect to my router ok and I see that its connected but it goes on to say that it cant connect to the internet and the skip button seems to be greyed out any advice please or how do I skip the welcome screen part thanks

Possible solutions:
1. Long press the home button to call the app management screen and close the account setup app if you can find it among the running apps.
2. Power off, then power on your phone while keeping the volume-down button pressed to boot into recovery. Choose factory/data reset and try again.
3. Download this gappas package and install it from recovery.

thanks for the input however neither will work Im afraid as the home button is not available on the welcome screen , I booted into recovery as suggested and did the reset but the same problem still seems to be occuring.

And did you try to install the gapps package from recovery? I mentioned the wrong button. You can boot into recovery by pressing the vol-up button together with the power button.

how do I install the gapps package from recovery? I saved the file as an xml do I need it to save it as a zip?
