Yes Aliexpress is the Best way to do a buying from China. Buyers protection is really high. You can talk with supplier easily   and do some business !

So, I will not be using my credit/debit card.

I can only pay with Paypal.

I've never heard a such story related to Aliexpress - you can give your card data on a https surface. On the other hand, PayPal also uses your credit card.

Just to clarify, I have never used Aliexpress.

The fraud that occured on my account happened because someone got my debit/credit card details from somewhere.

We never found out where they got the details form.
But now I just do NOT use my debit/credit card details.

I will only be buying this if I can pay with Paypal.

So for your information PayPal is not more secure than Alipay... But it's PayPal, the well Known payment platform never hacked.....  Ahahahaha the joke... Sooo you can stay on your view of PayPal

I'm not saying Paypal is more secure.
But, Paypal do not ask me for my debit/credit card details.
I just do a direct bank transfer of funds to Paypal.

As i have already lost £1500 from my bank account due to fraud, I'm NOT taking any risks.

Have tried to register with Webpay, but they don't alloy UK residents to use their service.

I may just wait until someone starts selling them on Ebay, and then I can pay with Paypal.

Alipay only accepts US dollars (I'm in the UK)

Your bank will process the currency conversion. If you go abroad, you still can use your credit card, can't you? That's just the same.
I'm a buyer on Aliexpress for more than 8 years. I wouldn't recommend it if that were not a safe place. Nowadays Aliexpress is even more popular then eBay.
