Thank you for responding.
My regular service provider is Telstra. When that Sim card did not appear to work I obtained a Sim card from Vodafone which uses some frequencies that are different to Telstra. It was the Vodafone Sim that gave me a very weak signal in the surburban shopping centre car park. My other phone is an Elephone M2 which works quite well for me with the Telstra Sim card. Comparing the phone network frequencies between the Umidigi and the Elephone the only difference is that Umidigi lists LTE Band 7 and the Elephone lists Band 8, otherwise they are identical. Of interest is that in the published network frequencies Telstra only rarely uses Band 8 so when I was considering buying the Umidigi I didn't feel that one discrepancy would make any difference.
Tonight I had a quick scan at other Umidigi phone specs and they all seem to specify the same network frequencies and I am sure Umidigi have sold many phones into Australia that presumably work here satisfactorily so I am a bit puzzled as to why my Umidigi isn't working very well.
I look forward to your comments
Regards
John
