This is the SP Flash Tool release of the

V7.01_20170711 Android 7.1.1 system software

for UMIDIGI Z

Flash tool operation is recommended for experienced users only. Do not use it if you cannot understand the whole process!

UMIDIGI Z receives all updates automatically via FOTA method. You need this tool only in case of emergency (if you've bricked your phone), if you want to apply a clean install or if you want to clear all root access and custom recovery to make your phone able to receive FOTA updates again. Another reason can be if you experience unexpected issues after updating via FOTA.

WARNING!

It is an Android version upgrade. Always flash this ROM as 'Firmware Upgrade', not 'Download Only' if you are upgrading an Android 6.0 system!

ATTENTION!
Since the first (V7.01_20170601) official Android 7.1.1 version has been subsequently downgraded to a public beta version, the OTA server is not configured to identify it, so any handsets installed with the V7.01_20170601 version will not receive the wireless OTA update.
You can flash your phone with the latest Android 6.0 version, then download and install the wireless update of the V7.01_20170712 version, or you can flash directly the flash tool release on any version.

Extract the .rar file before use. The scatter file (MT6797_Android_scatter.txt) is inside the extracted folder, together with the other components

VCOM driver: Windows 10 can automatically install it. Please make sure that your Windows is logged in with administrator rights and your computer has a working internet connection when first time connecting your phone.

Here's an optional solution to start the flashing process on your UMI(DIGI) Z if the standard method doesn't work.

It's especially useful if your phone is bricked or is stuck in bootloop

1. Connect your UMI(DIGI) Z to USB.

2. Start the flashing process with the Download button in the flasher app.

3. Press and keep pressed the power button of your phone until the flashing process starts (red bar appears at the bottom of the app window), then release it. In this process you have to keep the power button pressed for about 10 seconds.

4. Wait until the flashing process finishes.

Kind request from users:
Please report any kind of new issues you experience after installing this update only if you've already flashed this ROM with SP Flash Tool in Firmware Upgrade mode. In rare cases a FOTA update can cause more or less serious malfunctions but that means only the update process went wrong, not a badly developed ROM. An updated stock ROM, especially related to the basic functions will not cause any new issues but will solve some of the existing ones.

\n\nWell Ben, here is your list:
- Very bad coverage / signal. My phone goes every time from 4G to 3G (or even Edge).
- Very bad Bluetooth range. Around 2-3 meters.
- Random freezes.
- Low sensitive touchscreen on the latest 7.1.1 ROM. (I'm on the first 7.1.1 ROM).
- Overheating while gaming, or CPU intensive tasks (Sometimes even up to 60°C).
- 3rd party apps can't change the ISO value for taking picture or recording video (so Snapchat is a dealbreaker for me...).
- When I put my screen brightness on the lowes, my screen flashes sometimes.
- Very quick battery drain.
- I don't know why, but on android Nougat, the lockscreen clock is bold, but ours is not.
- A lot a mobile standby battery draining.
- Apps keep crashing. (I don't experience this bug, but others are).
- The black notification panel is so ugly. I know you can remove it by disabling a line in the build.prop file, but that only makes it transparent. What I want is just the NORMAL STOCK notification panel, in the NORMAL colors, and transparency.
- Very inaccurate GPS. Sometimes even up to 20 meters wrong (even if I have the very high accuracy mode enabled).
- When typing in landscape mode, the keyboard is shifted to the left. So there is a little gap on the right side.
- The "Zoom" bug where you take a picture, and then go to the gallery and zoom in. The quality is very bad, but the phone loads the picture and after like 5 seconds, the picture is "good".
- All the battery information numbers are multiplied by 10.
- Very annoying WiFi issue. I'm connected to my WiFi, but when I try to download something, it just says: "downloading", and keeps saying that forever. I have to disable and re-enable WiFi, en then it starts downloading.
- Not smooth scrolling. When I scroll (for example in Instagram or Google Chrome) it's just very laggy and choppy.
- No trusted face option in smartlock settings ("it's disabled by the kernel". That's what you said).
- Needs more than 3 hours to fully charge with stock charger and cable (instead of the 100 minutes on the UMIDIGI website).
- Just no smooth system UI, very buggy and laggy.

There are probably way more bugs, but those are the most annoying bugs.

And Ben, please don't tell me that I have to reflash the software to fix the issues. I reflashed already like 8 times, and it didn't fix them. I even formatted the hole phone before flashing. And don't say that other person or you can't represent those issues. If you can't represent one of those issues, it doesn't wanna tell that no one of us can represent it, or that it's or fault, of faulty hardware,...
It took me an hour to make this list, so please, don't give an excuse for every problem or bug. Just give the list to the developers, and ask them to fix them (or most of them) and give us an update.

The Umi Z is dead.
We will never get any updates becaus they are focusing on the Umi S2 Pro (or something like that)
UMIDIGI is a pure lie, and they only want money. They well never grow becaus they doesn't care about their costumers.
We reported so many bugs and problems, and not even one of all the updates for the Umi Z fixed a bug that we reported...

So all the owners of UMI Z, have a terrible ROM, we can't even use Facebook or Whatsapp, because it keeps crashing, UMIDIGI don't release their source code for custom roms, and you guys say "Won't release any Intermittent updates", we aren't asking for nothing unsual, we only want to use our phone, our $249 phone, without problems and crashing everytime. It's a shame. I believed this phone, i believed this brand. But now i know, UMIDIGI is a joke.

Yes, Umidigi only wants money. The telephone was launched this year and it is dead but full of bags. Incredible. I will never buy another UMIDIGI. In fact I have put on sale the telephone. If you want a good phone, Xiaomi is your telephone.

I am strongly agree with these points but also some major issues are need to be fixed on ASAP basis
like , Network Stability issue ( G,E,3G,4G Fluction ) and also touch senstivity on top bar .
Umi should consider them seriouse issues.

So this is for the Umi Z? Is the black notification bar back to normal? I'm on the latest N release, can I just download the .zip and flash it manual becaus I does't get the OTA.  (I'm not rooted).

Yup it is for the Z. According to the description phones with 7.1.1 will not receive OTA to this version so adnan was right about the downgrade to MM.

Now that I think about it you have to use SPFT tool either way if you already upgraded to 7.1.1. I don't mind, because it's super easy and the tutorial is well written, but it might pose a challenge for some users. Also not everyone UMI Z owner visits these forums and there is no other way how they can learn about new firmware release. Basically trough OTA you made all users betatesters. A solution would be to display a message via firmware update app that the latest version must be flashed via SPFT with link here, but I don't know if that is even possible. Other way would be releasing a second OTA package for the beta.

So in order to update download SP flash tool, download this ROM with the link provided, uncompress it to a folder. In SPFT open MT6797_Android_scatter scatter-loading file. Everything should be checked except for userdata!!! (otherwise your lose you setting and installed apps) and click download. Turn your phone off and connect it to the computer via USB. It will update the firmware and you should not lose any data in the process.
Make sure to backup everything you need in case something goes wrong.
Also make sure you have the proper drivers installed as posted above.

I made the Local Update. Everything is okay and works. i don´t loose any Data.
After the Update my Antutu Score is 92000, b4 it was 61000...

Sure you can, I did. Both the TWRP image and SuperSu zip packages can be used on this ROM.

i tried to install twrp but i bricked my phone, i succeeded in unbricking it but how can i install twrp
