This is the SP Flash Tool + OTA release of the
V7.01_20170613 Android 7.0 firmware
for UMI MAX

Flash tool operation is recommended for experienced users only. Do not use it if you cannot understand the whole process!
UMI MAX receives all updates automatically via FOTA method. You need this tool only in case of emergency (if you've bricked your phone), if you want to apply a clean install or if you want to clear all root access and custom recovery to make your phone able to receive FOTA updates again.

WARNING!
Always flash this ROM as 'Firmware Upgrade', not 'Download Only' if you are upgrading an Android 6.0 system!

Changelog:
  • Optimized Android 7.0 system power consumption
  • Fast charge failure issue after OTA upgrade fixed (You need a PE fast charger bought separately to enjoy the fast charge capabilities)
  • Improved Russian translation package
  • Wrong battery capacity (1000mAh) displayed by hardware analyzer apps fixed

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SP Flash Tool
Resources:

>>>>> ROM: 20170613_c239v55_kw_u11.rar <<<<< - Extract the .rar file before use. The scatter file (MT6755_Android_scatter.txt) is inside the extracted folder, together with the other elements

VCOM driver: Windows 10 already automatically can install it or you can use this: MTK_Driver_Auto_Installer_SP_Drivers_20160804.exe

Here's an optional solution to start the flashing process on your UMI MAX if the standard method doesn't work.
It's especially useful if your phone is bricked or is stuck in bootloop.
1. Connect your UMI MAX to USB.
2. Start the flashing process with the Download button in the flasher app.
3. Press and keep pressed the power button of your phone until the flashing process starts (red bar appears at the bottom of the app window), then release it. In this process you have to keep the power button pressed for about 10 seconds.
4. Wait until the flashing process finishes.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OTA (recovery) update
Manual (local) OTA update method instructions
  • Copy the downloaded .zip file to either the internal memory or the SD card of your phone
  • Go to Settings --> About phone --> Wireless update
  • Tap the 3-dot menu button at the top right corner and select Local updates
  • Brows for the ...update.zip file and select it
  • Tap Install now, comfirm the process with OK and wait until the process will be finished

>>>>> Update file for manual OTA update: UMi_MAX_V7.01_20170613_update.zip <<<<<

"the voltage regulator of your phone can be defective (short inside the chip) too, causing unexpected battery drainage and possibly other bugs due to the unstable power supply."
So hundreds of phones have defective chips, right? Cause it seems Umi Max phones aren't work correctly for most of us. In this case I think you should do something to solve this, else people will not trust you anymore. I own this phone for six months but I had the worst experience with a phone. And personally, $160 are really hard to earn. It's a very big disappointment, I'm sorry.

And, oh, if you know Android 7.0 is bad coded, why you don't upgrade to 7.1.1 or 7.1.2?

OK, now I've done what I should have done much earlier: downgraded my UMI Max back to Android 6. Having to do this is a big disappointment for me because UMI's promise to get the Android 7 update was one of the biggest reasons to choose this phone. Well, UMI, technically speaking you did fulfill that promise, but I could never have thought that a company could fail so badly in delivering a working version upgrade, and then finally just leave it like that.

Here are my experiences after the downgrade:

1. Power consumption: on Android 7, with careful use, I was able to squeeze two days of use, but in practice I usually charged every night so that I wouldn't have to worry about it, and because of point #2, please read below. On Android 6 I get easily three days of my normal use, with all the same apps installed and same settings made. This is a BIG difference in power consumption.

2. On Android 7 I had big difficulties with charging the phone. It happened frequently that when I hooked the phone to the charger (the basic one that came with the phone) in the evening, it was not nearly fully charged in the morning after 6-8 hours. I've had no such problems with Android 6, using the same charger and USB cable.

3. The WIFI connection was noticeably more unstable on Android 7. Downgrading to Android 6 made WIFI work normally again.

Umidigi takes a year trying to solve the bugs of this device, so, they can't, they give up and say to you to "buy a new phone"....  Of course I'll do it, but it will not be a Umidigi, for sure.

In any case this doesn't seems normal to me.
The phone was locked and inactive.
The battery loose 2%/h while phone locked. This is very strange.

So UMIDIGI will let your users with an awful android 7.0 rom, pretending that it has no problems, even with a lot of users testimonials, blaming google for making a bad version of the system?  A good reason for me never buying a UMIDIGI again.
I've downgraded to Android 6 too and despite of ghost finger print scan bug, everything else is better. The battery lasts not "slightly" more, lasts too much more! And the charging time, what difference! 2h30 for a full charge with the default charger, not 10 hours.

Even if the "battery drain" was not solved, I've expected at least ghost finger print scan and slow charging to be solved.

I'm too a fellow downgrader and I'm much happier now, as you've stated, with charging time and overall usability. The only issue is with the fingerprint, that is much more unstable, but I'm willing to take this as long as I can use my phone like before. The issues in Android 7 are real, although they don't acknowledge it. Now my WiFi is stable again and it's charging faster and discharging slower. Overall, it's a much faster and smoother experience. As you said, it's dissapointing that Umi couldn't come up with a reliable update. One thing I'm sure of: this phone is the first and last of this brand.

it's really sorry, this phone may be old to the company, but it's new for me and is sad to have a buggyphone. Charging was doing better for some time, but now it's awful again, fingerprint is unusable, the ghost scan is worst than ever. This phone is fast, have a great screen, 3gb ram is very useful, the battery is not bad at all, but for a phone that is heavy because of the battery, it's not good enough. Some said the camera is awful, for me, it's ok. If charging and fingerprint were OK and battery last 1 and a half day at least, I would not change this phone so soon, but these facts makes me think in buy another one soon, from another brand, because Umidigi support is disappointing.

Updated via OTA.

Same here about battery draining, @ozkaya84. Here are BI ...

Sorry but I'm not sure whether this model will receive further updates in the future anytime. I can reach about 6 days of standby time with this phone using this latest update (wifi on and connected + a sim card and an sd card installed + 60 custom apps installed) and it doesn't get hot while playing youtube videos. Processor hungry games make it warmer, of course but that's pretty normal.
In such cases when I can't reproduce an issue and I don't get detailed info about it, I can recommend only to flash your device with SP Flash Tool, then start to test it without installing your custom apps and without an sd card installed. Unfortunately, I cannot check and analyze your specific device remotely.

Send link of the procedure that I performed to update my UMI MAX. Since the last update it has problems being repeatedly requested to reboot and also constantly shows the closure of applications. I have already made the updates via SP_Flash_Tool_v5.1716 with the options, "FORMATT ALL + DOWNLOAD", "DOWNLOAD ONLY", "FIRMWARE UPGRADE", with data and cache cleaning ... however the problem continues.
Is there any other procedure that can be done?

First try to flash your phone again using a different computer and USB cable. Don't wipe data in recovery, just flash with SPFT in firmware upgrade mode.
If flashing with another computer and USB cable does not help, your phone might have a RAM error.
