This is the SP Flash Tool + OTA release of the
V7.01_20170605 Android 7.1.1 system software
for UMIDIGI Z Pro

Flash tool operation is recommended for experienced users only. Do not use it if you cannot understand the whole process!
UMIDIGI Z Pro receives all updates automatically via FOTA method. You need this tool only in case of emergency (if you've bricked your phone), if you want to apply a clean install or if you want to clear all root access and custom recovery to make your phone able to receive FOTA updates again. Another reason can be if you experience unexpected issues after updating via FOTA.

WARNING!
It is an Android version upgrade. Always flash this ROM as 'Firmware Upgrade', not 'Download Only' if you are upgrading an Android 6.0 system!

Changelog:
  • Android 7.1.1 upgrade with many new features, higher performance and longer battery life
  • Wrong battery capacity report (1000mAh) fixed

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SP Flash Tool
Resources:

Flashtool tutorials: UMI Forum or androidxda guide or YouTube guide (you can google a lot of other solutions and guides)

>>>>> ROM: 20170605_g15v97_kw_u81_4m.rar <<<<< - Extract the .rar file before use. The scatter file (MT6797_Android_scatter.txt) is inside the extracted folder, together with the other components
SUPER WARNING!!!
Flashing this ROM on an Android 6.0 system will make the nvram partition inaccessible, driving to lose your IMEI numbers, what's needed for mobile communication. To avoid that, do update your Android 6.0 system with the OTA update by all means. Then you can flash parts or the full ROM without any issues. If you've already lost your IMEI numbers, you can recover them with SN Write Tool.
Either wirelessly or manually, installing the OTA update is a safe method to upgrade your device.

VCOM driver: Windows 10 already automatically can install it or you can use this: MTK_Driver_Auto_Installer_SP_Drivers_20160804.exe

Here's an optional solution to start the flashing process on your UMIDIGI Z Pro if the standard method doesn't work.
It's especially useful if your phone is bricked or is stuck in bootloop
1. Connect your UMIDIGI Z Pro to USB.
2. Start the flashing process with the Download button in the flasher app.
3. Press and keep pressed the power button of your phone until the flashing process starts (red bar appears at the bottom of the app window), then release it. In this process you have to keep the power button pressed for about 10 seconds.
4. Wait until the flashing process finishes.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OTA (recovery) update
Manual (local) OTA update method instructions
  • Copy the downloaded .zip file to either the internal memory or the SD card of your phone
  • Go to Settings --> About phone --> Wireless update
  • Tap the 3-dot menu button at the top right corner and select Local updates
  • Brows for the ...update.zip file and select it
  • Tap Install now, comfirm the process with OK and wait until the process will be finished

>>>>> Update file for manual OTA update: UMIDIGI_Z_Pro.V7.01_20170605_update.zip <<<<<

Optional method (in case if the manual OTA update gets stuck): Install from recovery
You need a microSD card (with at least 4GB capacity) installed in your phone!
  • Copy the ...update.zip file to your SD card
  • Press and hold the volume-up and power buttons together until your phone restarts in the boot selector mode. It needs about 10 seconds or a little bit less if your phone was already powered off.
  • Here you can move with the vol-up button and select an item with vol-down. Select Recovery.
  • Your phone reboots into Recovery and you see a lying android figure with an exclamation mark in red triangle on its tummy.
  • Press and hold the power and vol-up buttons (in this order) together, then release them to call the recovery menu. Now you can move with the volume buttons and select an item with the power button.
  • Move to ‘Apply update from SD card’ and select it.
  • On the next screen brows for the update file and select it. The updating process will start and needs a few minutes to be finished.
  • After a succcessful installation you can read the ''Install from sdcard complete'' message and the receovery menu is available again.
  • Select 'Reboot system now'. Alternatively you can perform a factory data reset here by choosing 'Wipe data/factory reset'

Kind request from users:
Please report any kind of new issues you experience after installing this update only if you've already flashed this ROM with SP Flash Tool in Firmware Upgrade mode. In rare cases a FOTA update can cause more or less serious malfunctions but that means only the update process went wrong, not a badly developed ROM. An updated stock ROM, especially related to the basic functions will not cause any new issues but will solve some of the existing ones.

Dear Users,

Since the incorrect handling of some types of SIM cards can cause random reboots, the wireless OTA update of this ROM release has been suspended. However, since a majority of users has no such issues, I'm keeping this version available here in the ROM section for manual update.
If you experience random reboots after upgrading to Android 7.1.1, please flash the latest Android 6.0 (V3.01_20170408) ROM with SP Flash Tool (you're going to downgrade your system) and wait for the next update.
Thank you for your understanding.
EDIT: Comments cannot be replied. If you'd like to get an answer, please use the reply button, don't comment.

EDIT 29th June: the next update is expected to be released on 7th July.
EDIT 13th July: Since this version here has been officially canceled, the OTA server is not programmed to identify it, so any handsets installed with the V7.01_20170605 version will not receive the wireless OTA update.
You can flash your phone with the latest Android 6.0 version, then download and install the wireless update, or you can flash directly the new Android 7.1.1 version. Both the flash tool package and the OTA update file of the V7.01_20170710 version are going to be provided here in the ROM section by the end of this week. That's only my task, so I can promise it.

A great mobile is little useful without a good software. It's enough for me, I'm triying to sell both my Z and Z Pro and buy another mobile, perhaps a Xiaomi, who is more concerned with maintaining good software.
Bye UMIDIGI.

I agree, the camera has lost a lot of quality and is not as good as before.
It has lost a lot of quality considering it is a dual camera. One of the reasons I bought this phone was for the camera. However I thank the UMI development team for the great effort and time invested. I would be grateful if they could perfect those details that make us customers and users buy and recommend this brand.
Thanks again

Edited by speedycvc at 2017-6-9 16:16 \n\nFinally I did full wipe ( format cache, data, data user and system )  and flashed it today:

Good performance, reactivity, fast charge is working but some issues are very boring.

Phone=> microphone very low - people don't hear me...

Cam => Noisy pictures - grey dots ... It's very bad for a photophone with dualcam. I have an Xperia with same IMX with better render and ISO is really better and does not do grey points on pictures. I think that's the driver who needs to be improved.
No more Super Night Mod since update...

GPS => Glonass seems to be disable, I had 24 or more satellites detected before update now have 10 to 19 satellites.
The fix is slow and not accurate, It show me sometimes 10 to 100m from the real position.

Compass => Need to be recalibrate after all reboots or use... it's really bad because some GPS use Compass to accurate the traceroad.

Battery Drain => 9h of use 100% to 8 % after a full charge without a lot of use in a day. Drain => 10% / hour

I think that you need more improvements on those points.
I really hope that devs will take a look to those points.

I have updated my device to 20170710 firmware. Yes it fixed most bugs I had when my device on 201706 ...

Try this..Pull down notification bar.. You see something about the USB connection. Tap on it.. See whether it shows a notification that the connection is for charging only.. If it does, just tap on the second button to change the default to transfer files.
Hope this helps.

I have not yet received the update of 20170710.
Currently running "UMIDIGI Z Pro.V7.01_20170605_2017 ...

At this stage, mine is running similar to yours on the same rom. Everything was pretty much working as it should but with some of the little bugs others have mentioned. The camera could be better but it's not terrible & the battery drain is there but it does seem to differ daily so some of it may be to do with the app's installed.
I've just updated to the V7.01_20170710 via OTA from the zip file posted a few pages back. After running it for the better part of today I have noticed
  • an improvement in the battery but this is still early days & I haven't used it heavily
  • No reboots at all (I only have had two in 1 week previously & that seemed to be because of a particular app I was using) so far
  • Fingerprint is working flawlessly
  • Fast & smooth with the apps I have installed. I haven't played any games as yet.
  • Not sure about the camera - I haven't had a chance to test it out properly, just a few random shots around the house. May be I'm being hopeful but it does seem to be a bit better, but still not as good as it should/could be

Hopefully this is a marked improvement on previous roms so it will be interesting to see what others experiences are?

I have not yet received the update of 20170710.
Currently running "UMIDIGI Z Pro.V7.01_20170605_20170605-1620"
So far I have not found any problems and everything works well.
- Camera is better than with Android 6.0
Now the pictures are also good in Pro Photo, Facebeauty, Photo and Mono mode.
With Android 6.0 the photos were sharp and focused only in bokeh mode.
- GPS works well.
- Bluetooth works well.
The connection with my car has worked.
Telephoning and listening to music works.
- Wifi works without problems.
- When switching between Wifi and 4G I could not find any problems.
- Fingerprint seems to be a bit faster than Android 6.0 and works better.
   There are now less failures.
- I had no crash or rebootls
- The battery drain was not improved,
but it did not get any worse.
- The signal is good. I usually have 4G.
- I have the impression the system runs smoother and more fluent than Android 6.0
- The apps start up faster.

Thanks to the developers at UMIDIGI.

I never had restarts. Switching from Wifi to 4G now works now properly. The signal.is pretty good. Fingerprint is more accurate and faster. Camera didn't improve i think. GPS has to be tested. But all in all it runs a littlw faster than before. But the SOT is might a little less than before.

Sorry but the 4G (LTE) bands used in the USA are not supported by the hardware. A software update cannot change that state.

I downloaded the file and tried to do a local update, nothing got updated. Used OTA which worked perfectly with all functions working as usual. I'd recommend turning off the virtual buttons to make the bottom of the screen less cluttered. Once the SP version of the ROM is available I'll do a clean install. Looks like the update is a winner.

Thank you Umidigi. Thank you ben and sorry for the impatience. I instaled with TWRP with no trouble. I did not have time to do a clean install so I decided to try and risk like you said. Until now all good. If I check some bug, I will make a full wipe and a clean install. For now thank you again.

It's a public attribution of the hardware (you can check it on the official product page), not something that you can fix, not a bug.
