UMIDIGI C Note: Slim body or big battery?

When you're looking for a new smartphone with both a slim body and big battery, you usually have to reach a compromise...


Not obviously if you choose the UMIDIGI C Note.

The last model from UMi in (almost) the same category was the UMi MAX released 7 months ago. Last year UMi launched 10 new models in 5 different categories, so one new model in the same category in every 6 months as an average.

Entry level: Rome X (5.5"), London (5.0") and Diamond X (5.0")
Middle-low level: Diamond (5.0")
Middle-high level: Touch and MAX
High level: Super and Plus
Flagship level: Plus E and Z

All of the 5 different categories have different groups of buyers targeted. UMi's strategy is to cover the widest range of users as possible, not to flood the market with many new but the same kind of smartphones. As a comparison and for example Samsung released more than 30 different smartphone models last year and most of them hardly or never get any update.
Now it's April already and UMi has released only 2 models in this year until now.

Explaining this helps and I strongly feel it will help Umidigi if they made it clear on which category a new smartphone fell into, as many seem to think when a new smartphone appears it is at the flasgship level, which is at no fault fo Umidigi but clarity will resolve this outlook. I wouldnt compare to Samsung as they are at a completely different level and if needed I am sure, could provide adequate support at any given moment to their Low to Mid level smartphones but as the saying goes 'you get what you pay for' hence why they may not provide further support in order to switch focus to their flagships after getting their low-mid level smartphones to an adequately working standard.

Main support would ideally be given to High & Flagship level models as these are the products which represent the company, I am sure most are understanding to the fact Entry and Middle levels will not receive many updates (unless required) however this will depend on the quality assurance of the company, the better that is at inital stages the less focus will be needed for Low level smartphones therefore focussing solely on the flagships.

As a suggestion maybe having only 4 out of the 5 categories (Entry, Middle, High and Flagship) releasing (3) smartphones at Entry level, (2) at Middle level and (1) each at High and Flagship levels could help with Umidigi as a growing company considering Umidigi does not seem to have a huge workforce. Entry & Middle level smartphones will need to have a good level of quality assurance so they could be sold with minimum support which can allow Umidigi to direct majority of their focus to the High & Flagship models, this could help when building the reputation of the company considering support is an area which needs improving, although it is understandable due to not having a huge workforce, it is also the reason why it is a major requirement to be efficient with the workforce Umidigi has. I  have noticed that Umidigi as a small company are trying too hard to be unique by being the first to acquire or release an aspect of hardware in order to build their reputation through the marketing of these devices but tbh that is just adding unnessecary pressure when not having a level of software support to match the level of hardware obtained. Umidigi's unique selling point is providing affordable, innovative smartphones which does not mean being the first and although you will have to keep up with others in the market maybe shifting the innovation to the software and design which are more in Umidigi's control, will be better suited until the growth of the company can match its ambition however it is great to see but could easily be Umidigi downfall in the long run.

A flagship phone needs to have more than a year of support. And that things take time to accomplish is a fact but to send out buggy software as a ota that even a blind could see is not adequate to release is just not acceptable. Like before I think communication between umi and a strong community ( not present yet) could make Umi great.
